Your moth is one of the eyed sphinx moths in the genus Smerinthus. You did not say where you were from to help know which one you have. There are 3 species and each generally shows up in different geographic locations, though the one-eyed sphinx is found over most of North America. 🙂
The eyed sphinxes all are tan, light brown with similar markings. The underwing is pinkish with an eye spot.
The sphinx moths are in the family Sphingidae. The caterpillars have a tail and are sometimes called hornworms. The caterpillars feed on willow and poplar tree leaves. The moths do not feed.
There is one generation per year with the pupa overwintering.
