Doug Green is an award-winning Canadian writer who has been answering gardening questions using organic techniques for 40 years.
One of the most published of Canadian garden writers (8 print-books and over 20 e-books) he’s been a radio host, a syndicated newspaper columnist, and magazine writer for the trade and consumer publications.
And yes, delivering organic or environmentally sustainable advice and answering questions from homeowners for all that time.
He owned and ran his own specialist-plant greenhouse/nursery business in Athens, Ontario named Simple Gifts Farm (hence the old website name of simplegiftsfarm.com) for 23 years. This was 20,000 square feet of retail greenhouses plus associated nursery growing space. Growing 1800 varieties of perennial flowers and 600 varieties of unusual annuals, Doug enjoyed his time growing.
He shut the nursery down in 1998 to write full time.
In 2005 he transitioned from print to the Net and now writes for his own websites. He produces articles, newsletters, ebooks, videos and answers questions to help gardeners with organic techniques and become successful gardeners.

Doug currently gardens and writes on an island off the city of Kingston, Ontario, Canada out in Lake Ontario and is developing a new garden there with his heirloom-plant expert partner Mayo Underwood. Their gardens are considered a USDA 4 or Canadian 5 garden zone.
When not in the garden, he can found driving his 77 Spitfire, out sailing, scuba diving or sitting on the deck reading a book.
Doug is the insanely proud father of four children – all following their own dreams – and the happy partner of Mayo who encourages his writerly ways.
